Introduction to Editing.

Editing is the process where people collect different shots and put them together to create a story. Elliptical editing is when images are put together to condense time, it allows the audience to fill in the gaps of what has happened between two shots for example if a girl is sitting looking tired and then we skip to a shot where she is waking up we know that she has been asleep for a few hours without actually seeing it. Non Diagestic Sound is when music starts to play but it is for the audiences benefit and the character on screen cannot hear the music, it helps set the mood and put the audience in the right frame of mind. In the video we watched, we know that the woman is bending down to pick up the ring because we first see her looking towards the ground then it cuts to a close up of the ring on the floor and her picking it up, the shots that were used were close ups so we can see the woman's facial expressions and the ring.

Over Head Establishing Shot's set out the space of where the scene is taking place and what characters are there. Shot Reverse Shot shows who is talking to who and what they can see, it shows the facial expressions of the characters. Eye Line Matching is when the characters are looking in the direction of the other person so the audience know they are talking to each other. We cut to other members of the group so the people watching can see their facial expressions and reactions to what is being said. A Wipe  is a slick transition of which moves the action to a different time and location. Using Quick Cuts creates a fast rhythm and keeps the audience on their toes.

Editing builds up tension and pace by putting loads of shots together in cutting then from one another quickly it adds to the tension and gives it a fast rhythm, music and lighting are also used to set the tone of the scene. Cross Cutting is when the shots cut back and fourth from one person to another. Reaction Shots capture the reaction of other characters on the screen when they are watching something. Seamless editing is when there is so much action happening on screen the audience are distracted and don't pay attention to how it was made. A flashback takes the audience from one point in time to another to show a significant point in time that is relevant to what is happening in the present. Editing is often used poetically, two images are put together to make the audience think about the connection between the two.
